It is the policy of the Hinsdale School District to provide parents, custodial or otherwise, access to educational records of their children. Further, students reaching the age of eighteen (18) will have access to educational records, in accordance with the Buckley Amendment, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) 20 USC S.2343 (g). Your building Principal has information for you as to which procedure must be followed.
In accordance with RSA 186-C:10-a, upon a student’s graduation from high school, his or her parents may request in writing that the Hinsdale School District destroy the student’s records and final individualized education program (IEP) at that time or request that the records be retained until the student’s twenty-sixth birthday. The adult student may, at any time prior to the student’s twenty-sixth birthday, request, in writing, that the records be retained until the student’s thirtieth birthday.
Absent any request by a student’s parents at the time of graduation, the Hinsdale School District shall destroy a student’s records and final individualized education program (IEP) within a reasonable time after the student’s twenty-sixth birthday, provided that all such records be destroyed by the student’s thirtieth birthday.
A written notice of the document destruction policy is presented to the parents or adult student upon the student’s graduation with a regular high school diploma or at the transfer of rights, whichever occurs first.
