Scholastic Parent Book Orders

As always you can send the orders directly to me.

If your order will be a present, you may send me a note or email requesting that I not give it to your student

and make arrangements to pick it up at another time.

Our Curriculum

Reading- Scott Foresman Reading Street

This program incorporates a comprehensive approach to reading with a core reading book,

leveled reader books as well as spelling, grammar and writing which

is connected to each story.  Skills spiral throughout the book.

Mathematics- Everyday Math

This program uses a spiraling approach to mathematics which allows students to continually revisit

and practice skills and concepts.  Math games are an integral part of this program and provide a way

for students to practice skills at their level. Daily practice and reinforcement is very important in this program.

Social Studies-Our Nation

Fifth grade studies the history of the United States as well as important geography and map skills.

Science- Harcourt Science Text

Our focus is on physical, life and earth science.

Writing

We are using the Collins writing program in our classroom.

More information will follow on this program and how you can help  your child with their writing at home.

Students will come home with a homework folder daily.
This will contain an assignment sheet to be initialed each evening as well as any work to be completed or notices..
At the end of the day all students must write the homework from the board on their sheet.
If they have no homework they must write that. They must show you the sheet and
have you initial that you have seen it -homework or not.
On Fridays, this folder will contain any work or notices from the week. Please check it, keep the completed work and notices at home and return the folder the following Monday morning.
Please make sure to check in with your student each evening to make sure they have completed all work.
