Our class consists of seven second graders and six first graders. We work together most of the time but are separated by grade level for most of our math time.

Curriculum
Most of what we study follows the HES Curriculum Guides that are aligned with the NH State Grade Level Expectations or GLE’s.
In Math, like all other HES classrooms this year, we follow the Everyday Math
Program. This is a rigorous math program giving each student different pieces of math everyday. Rather than focusing on only one concept we “spiral” round and round reviewing and adding new concepts daily.
Our morning literacy groups are guided by the works of Fountas & Pinnell, the Literacy Collaborative and Wilson’s Language Basics/Fundations. Letter sound recognition, fluency and comprehension while reading, and learning to write with reason, are our main objectives.
Science and Social Studies are enhanced through the works of Harcourt, and Silver Burdett Ginn.
