New Hampshire Frameworks – Grade Level Expectations

Homework Policies:
I believe homework is a necessary part of school.  While we can review previously learned concepts, introduce new concepts, and practice these at school, they need to be reinforced at home.  Homework is an extension of their school-day learning.

Classroom Procedures:
I expect a lot out of my students but no more than they are capable of giving.  I want them to learn as much during their fourth grade year as is possible.

Our classroom rules are simple.  They focus on respect and responsibility.
Raise your hand to talk.
Follow directions the first time they are given.
Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
Respect the property and feelings of others.
Put things back where they belong.

We use an assignment book every day.  As our school day is coming to an end, I write everything we have done and homework on the white board.  Students are expected to copy, exactly, what I have written on the board.  If they have finished any in-class work, they can check it off.  Whatever is not finished in class is considered homework and should be taken home to complete.
I ask that parents sign the assignment book every night.  Students should return to school the next day with completed homework and signed assignment books.

I also use a parent/teacher communication folder on Fridays – “Friday Folder”.  In this folder, you will find students graded and returned work, notices from the school and/or community, lunch bills (if applicable), and possibly, Everyday Math unit introduction letters.  Please look through your student’s Friday Folder over the weekend and sign the backside acknowledging that you have seen it.  Your child should return it at the beginning of each week.
